You might be asking yourself, "So what exactly is Virtual Decor?" Virtual Decor is a service that we offer at Eliza & Edison for our clients who are either not in our area, and or are on an extended timeline as they build their room piece by piece to maximize their budget.
So now, you might be asking, "How does that work?" If you don't have floor plans or architectural drawings, we walk you through a step-by-step process for accurately measuring and photographing your space. We then take your measurements and create a floor plan (like the image above). We will have a virtual consultation through Zoom to go over your needs and wants, just like the consultations we do in person in our area. From that meeting, we come up with a customized design plan and corresponding shopping list (see the numbers on the floor plan). The best part is, you can shop and install your design with confidence because we only select items that we know will fit within your space and suit your needs. You can even use the shopping plan to find like items in size and style at flea markets or other boutique shops.
This dining room has an awkward "L-shape" that made space planning difficult for our client to envision how to set up this room without having the dreaded "dead space" in the lower left corner of the floor plan. In our consultation, our client mentioned that they would dine outside under the stars (minus the bugs) if they could. That one simple comment sparked our design inspiration for the entire room:

How beautiful would that be?!?
We used this play on sky and earth throughout the entire design. To connect the lower left corner to the main dining space, we selected a constellation themed wallpaper to install on the entire ceiling. The rich navy blues create a sophisticated space.
To ground the main dining table in the space, we selected a rug from Unique Loom that evokes a sense of the reds in desert sand.
For seating, we were inspired by the vibrant green and fuzzy texture that is found in moss. We selected a velvet green fabric from Ballard Designs. We had the head chairs and a built in banquette covered in this fabric and finished with nail head trim.
Thanks to careful measuring, our client knew that the banquette would fit perfectly in that space, without blocking the window. For the banquette dining area, the client plans on using it as the kid's table/breakfast spot/playing cards table, so it was important to have a table that can easily be cleaned.
During our design planning, we kept referring to it as a "satellite dining area" so it was only fitting to use the original satellite, the Sputnik, as inspiration for our lighting choice.
For the main dining space, we used a buffet that resembled stacked stone that played off of the stacked stone fireplace across the room. We also used a sunburst mirror and a moon mirror to strengthen this theme of sky. Antique astrological charts and tools provided inspiration for the golden accents throughout the space.

One of our favorite things about this room has to be the s'mores cart. When not in use, a bench on casters and a blanket stay out of the way in the top left corner of the room, and a table with apothecary jars is on the left of the fireplace. After dinner, our client wheels the bench and table in front of the fireplace for s'mores under the stars.
